ABOUT GDS
Impact and outcomes
We track the metrics that matter to us – milemarkers indicating our kids are on track to become happy, healthy and successful adults.
Whole-child results
America’s achievement gap pertains to more than just academic results. Children from low-income households are less likely to receive adequate mental and physical health supports as well. Our model is predicated on the idea that we must do more than educate our students in the traditional sense. We have to meet them where they are and serve ALL their needs.
Setting a new standard: A look at GDS students’ support and performance compared to peers.
Measurement matters
In just the first two years of operating, and with relatively small starting cohorts, we actively tracked 67,258 data points above and beyond the typical assignment grades, test scores, and student attendance. That translates to our staff actively measuring about 313 more data points per student per year than a conventional school would be measuring.
Working hard, working ahead
When we opened, only 43% of our kindergartners were at or above grade level in math and 48% in reading. We finished the year with 80% and 71%, respectively. And 20% of our students finished the school year at least one full grade above their grade level.
